Lao Tzu in Tao Te Ching said,
Profess not and reveal enlightenment,
Contend not and lavish brilliance,
Proclaim not and win praises,
Dignify not and garner respect.
The master contests not,
Therefore is uncontested.

This literature fully demonstrates Lao Tzu’s philosophy on delicacy prevails strength.  The meaning of “contest not” is not necessarily giving up, but rather, it means by contesting nothing one becomes invincible because there is no one who can contest against you. This is the highest ground one can hold, the greatest wisdom on competition.

This also reflects a realm of life.  Moderation is the same theory that says to always accommodate all the goods and bads like the ocean embraces water from all rivers.  Both teach one to be gracious, generous and with a great deal of tolerance.

Do not be too radical nor pursue forcefully.  To be as boundary-less like water is the highest virtue; and to be desirous for nothing so one can stand firm to oneself ultimately have the same philosophy.

Hence, we honor the precious traits of Moderation (“Yong”) and Harmony (“He”).
